2026 Summer Internship
This summer will be our fifth year hosting a Small Family Fellow, and we couldn't be more excited!
NOTE: Since this fellowship is tied to a particular grant, it’s open only to full-time, in-state USNH students. Thanks for understanding that we can’t make exceptions.
This position is located in Portsmouth, NH. This position is part of the Small Family Community Fellowship program coordinated by UNH Cooperative Extension. Participants join a collaborative cohort engaged in weekly professional development, culminating in a final showcase to present their work.
The mission of the Chamber Collaborative of Greater Portsmouth is to lead the business community as a convener of people, businesses, and organizations, through communication, education, support, advocacy, and cooperative opportunities to make the Greater Portsmouth area a better, more prosperous place to live, work and play.
This student will support our mission by:
- Helping to execute events such as Business After Hours, Morning Mixer, Let’s Talk
- Tourism, Talking Shop, and more.
- Attend staff meetings and committee meetings as assigned.
- Assist in data management projects such as logo and photo management within our
- SharePoint server.
- Add events and news releases to Chamber Master (our web-based CRM software).
- Engage with visitors.
The position will run from June 1- August 7. The exact schedule will be set by mutual agreement between the selected candidate and the Chamber staff. Time commitment will be approximately 30 hours per week and will include some evening activities.
An important component of this internship will be creating a stronger connection between the University of New Hampshire and the Chamber.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Student will attend staff meetings and committee meetings as assigned.
- Student will attend most Chamber events during the course of their internship.
- Student will assist in data management projects such as logo and photo management
- within our SharePoint server.
- Student will assist with event logistics.
- Student will add events and news releases to Chamber Master (our web-based CRM software).
- Student will assist in the creation of bundles of rack cards and in the distribution of
- marketing collateral.
- Student will answer the phone and help visitors with directions or recommendations about
- the area during fill-in shifts at the front desk.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Student will gain experience thinking critically to address business situations.
- Student will have the opportunity to practice communication skills and to interact effectively
- in business situations.
Qualifications:
- Student must be willing to learn the basic taking points about the Greater Portsmouth
- business community and tourism market and possess the ability to make reasonable
- attempts to answer to follow-up questions from visitors.
- Student must be familiar with the basics of Microsoft Office.
- Student must be comfortable speaking on the telephone – or willing to practice until
- Student must project a positive attitude.
- Student may be asked to lift boxes weighing up to 50 lbs. however this is not a requirement
- of the position and reasonable accommodations will certainly be made if the student is
- unable to perform this task.
- Student must possess strong organization skills.
- Student will, ideally, possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Requirements:
- Applicants must be USNH undergraduate students and preferably committing to
- participating in this internship for two consecutive summers.
- Available for June 1 orientation and August 7 showcase
