FREE HOLIDAY PARKING!  All on-street and public surface lot parking will be free in Portsmouth beginning Monday (Dec. 12) through Monday, Jan. 2. However, vehicles may not be parked in the same space longer than the posted time limits, and will be subject to violations for exceeding them. If you expect to park longer than the posted time, consider using the municipal parking garage at 34 Hanover Street. The parking garage rate will remain at 75 cents per hour throughout the holidays, but is the best source for stress-free parking.

December 8 & 15 - On the 8th, Good Vibes, Celtic Crossing, Paradiza, Warner's Card & Gifts and other downtown shops are hosting a Ladies' Night Out from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.  and on the 15th they are hosting a Guy's Night Out from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.  Shops are offering discounts and special values (Good Vibes is offering a 20% discount; some restrictions apply), and in-store beverages and appetizers.  

December 8 - Portsmouth Non-Profits Team Up for Holiday Cheer!  Holiday Sale and Open House at the Governor John Langdon House, 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.  Free self-guided tours and deeply discounted unique gifts and stocking stuffers from Historic New England, the Blue Ocean Society for Marine Conservation and the Portsmouth Black Heritage Trail.  Specialty gift offerings include glassware, jewelry, home d├ęcor, books on local and regional history, gift memberships, and more at special holiday sale prices from Historic New England. Blue Ocean Society will offer Adopt-a-Marine Creature packages, memberships, stocking stuffers, personalized ornaments, whale stuffed animals, warm fleece apparel, and more. There will also be free gift wrapping, even for items purchased elsewhere.

Vintage Christmas Pop Up Market at The Music Hall Loft.  It's the Vintage Christm in Portsmouth information center - with unique holiday gifts from Strawbery Banke Museum, The Music Hall, Puttin' on the Glitz, and Churchill's Garden Center. Look for show and stroll tickets, gift certificates, signed books from the Writers Series, Portsmouth souvenirs, holiday ornaments, fashion jewels, poinsettias and greenery, stuffed animals, history books, vintage handbags, note cards, and one of a kind lanterns. The bar is open with a winter menu and select bar beverages. Profits go to support The Music Hall's Explore + Learn program. Live entertainment every Thursday in December, 5-7.

December 9 & 16 (Fridays)- Groups of Portsmouth Middle School instrumentalists will be playing brass, woodwind and flutes throughout the downtown, 4:00 to 5:45 p.m., with a group performance in Market Square at 5:30.  Come out to support our local student talent!

December 10 & 17 (Saturdays) - the Market Square Carolers, groups of Portsmouth Middle School choral singers, will be caroling throughout the downtown, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., with a group performance in Market Square at 6:15.  Holidays are made all the better when you hear young people singing.

December 13 - Pay It Forward - Shop Local to Support the Seacoast Family Food Pantry.  Participating shops will be donating 10% of their revenue from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. to the Food Pantry.  Additional donations gratefully accepted.   Shoppers will be treated to warm cider, hot chocolate and goodies in the stores.  Shop at Fa La Lo, the Flower Kiosk, Puttin' on the Glitz, Paradiza and Hazel to support the Food Pantry, and you can also drop off food items at Good Vibes.

December 15 - The Chamber's annual Holiday Auction & Wine Tasting Gala.  The Chamber's online silent auction in ongoing from now until the December 15th's Gala.  Visit to bid on more than FIFTY gift items, from clothing to furniture, dining to getaways.

December 20 - Fa La Lo, Good Vibes, Paradiza, Hazel and other shops will be hosting a party, a Festival of Lights, with music, libations and value added specials, with a portion of the proceeds going to a local charity.


The Holiday Doors of Portsmouth
decorating challenge continues until January 3rd.  Portsmouth downtown businesses and historic homes are dressing up for the Holidays.  Ballots for the doors you like the best are available in participating shops, and the winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on January 5th at Brazo Restaurant.
